Cattle have had enormous economic benefit to humans even before 3000BC.
They have pulled wagons, ploughs and done other useful work.We use their hides, milk and meat. Throughout history they have had sacred importance to many societies. In some regions of Africa they are considered currency. There are many breeds. Here is an illustration of the Angus breed. (HFHA Coll.)

There are many cuts of beef (the name for cattle meat) including the ribs which are a popular barbeque item. (HFHA Coll.)

Meat that comes from young cattle or calves is called veal. The tenderness and whiteness of this meat is created by restricting the movement of the animal. This picture shows the types of confining pen that was used in France in the early part of the 20th century. Some variation of this stall is used to feed calves and restrict their movement until they are slaughtered. (HFHA Coll.)

Hamburgers are now a worldwide fast food staple. Children are encouraged to want fast food by offering them toys with their meals. This is an early toy premium. (HFHA Coll.)
