Fun Exhibits

This is the first in a series of mini-exhibits on how animals help humans harvest food. Send us your favorite animal harvest helper report. Or make up a story. Either way, we will try and add them here.

This Malaysian monkey gets his reward, some coconut milk and meat, after a morning swinging from palm tops, tossing down the hard-to-reach nuts.

Man and monkey teams like to travel from coconut harvest jobs by bike. They are paid by the palm owners to periodically pick and pile the coconuts.

This early 20th century tin toy features a monkey who climbs the palm, collects the coconut, (a steel ball,) and brings it down again. The mechanism still works. The coconut palm branches are made of leather.
