Life Lab Science Program is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization and has been working in the field of science and environmental education for over twenty years. With our award winning curricula and programs, the organization helps schools develop gardens where children can create "living laboratories" for the study of the natural world. Since we developed the first Life Lab school garden in Santa Cruz in 1978, we have worked with over 1000 schools across the United States.
Life Lab is involved in a variety of projects throughout California. Most of our work centers around working directly with teachers to help them use school gardens and hands-on science programs effectively.

Rivers and Birds
In the community: We offer educational workshops, wildlife demonstration opportunities, community screenings of our award-winning documentary Nuestras Acequias, and the annual Wild Film Festival (fall) and the Eco Film Series (spring). All of these activities are fun and exciting ways to learn about our environment. In public schools: We lead students and teachers, along with community leaders, on scientific, historic, and cultural journeys into nature designed to connect them to the environment. Our hands-on experiential Watershed Learning Project is presented yearly to over five hundred 5th grade students in Taos County. In research: Our professional staff and associates provide broad ecological research experience and data analysis expertise to local, state, and federal land managers.

Humane Slaughter Association The Council of Justice to Animals (CJA) was formed in 1911 by a small group of people who were deeply concerned about the methods being used to slaughter animals for food and for destroying cats and dogs. They were also anxious to improve the welfare of food animals by introducing reforms to livestock markets and transport facilities.
