Potatoes as Currency

Islanders in the Atlantic eat enormous amounts of potatoes. Potatoes are so important to the diet of the people of the South Atlantic island of Tristan da Cunha that they are used as a medium of exchange. In this case potatoes were used to buy postage stamps with a local value of four potatoes.
