"Potato Eaters" by Van Gogh

Once established, the potato became the staple food of impoverished Europeans. Vincent Van Gogh's "The Potato Eaters" depicts a Dutch coalmining family sharing a meal of potatoes and coffee. Van Gogh did several versions of this painting, which remains one of the most famous masterpieces in the world. The original is in Amsterdam.
