Squid is a ten-armed member of the cephalopod class of mollusks. Its meat is firm and chewy. , "Calamari," Italian for squid, is now popular in American restaurants. This uncommonly large squid is held by the naturalist Edward Ricketts (1897-1948) (The photo is by Ralph Buchsbaum and published as a post card by the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History.)
