Early Florida Indian Fare on the Menu in Tampa

According to the Tampa Bay Times, Ulele Restaurant, a project long in the works and developed by Columbia Restaurant's Richard Gonzmart, is opening tomorrow  in Tampa, Florida.

"The entire menu of the restaurant opening Tuesday in Tampa Heights pays tribute to early-Florida Indian fare and the pioneers who came later, from jalapeno corn beer biscuits to crackling port shank and alligator hush puppies."

The  name derives from the story of Ulele, "the young daughter of a local Tocobaga chief believed to have saved a member of a Spanish expedition out of love."

The restaurant, which includes a micro-brewery, is installed in the old water works building.
